Islamic State flag raised above building in Kobane, Syria
Islamic State militants are reported to have entered the key Syria-Turkey border town of Kobane and are engaged in street-to-street fighting with Syrian Kurd defenders.
More than 160,000 Syrians, mainly Kurds, have fled the town.
Last week, Turkey promised to prevent the town from falling to the militants, and its parliament authorised military operations against them in Iraq and Syria.
Paul Adams reports from the Turkish-Syrian border.
