Pentagon: Kobane 'could still fall' to Islamic State

The Pentagon has said that the town of Kobane, under attack by Islamic State militants, "could still fall".

Rear Admiral John Kirby said the US believed they had killed "several hundred" IS fighters in and around the town.

He confirmed the reason there were more airstrikes on the town was the greater number of extremists there.

He also said that the US believed a "great majority" of the population had left, lowering the risk of civilian deaths.
