Inside the city liberated from IS after week-long battle

The Iraqi prime minister has declared that 2016 will see the total defeat of so-called Islamic State in Iraq.

Haider al-Abadi was speaking after Iraqi forces, backed by coalition air strikes, recaptured the city of Ramadi from IS.

The Iraqi Army Chief of Staff, Lt Gen Othman al-Ghanemi, said the plan was to move on to recapture Mosul after securing the rest of Anbar province.
