Violinist brings music back to Mosul

Musician Ameen Mukdad has given his first public performance in the Iraqi city of Mosul since so-called Islamic State banned music and seized his instruments.

About 20 people watched the small concert, held at the site revered as the burial place of the prophet known as Jonah in the Bible, and Younis in the Koran.

Mr Mukdad continued to play at home, in secret, under IS rule. He left for Baghdad after Iraqi government forces pushed the militants from his neighbourhood in January, but returned to Mosul on Wednesday.
