Sirens sound for the dead as Israel stops to mark Memorial Day
Israelis have been marking their national Memorial Day, which commemorates soldiers and citizens who have lost their lives in the country's wars.
Sirens sounded across Israel as people stood still in the street to honour the dead. This year also commemorates around 1,200 victims of last October's Hamas attack, which triggered the current war in Gaza.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told mourners at the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem that Israel's 'war of independence was not over yet'.
A service of prayers was also held at the site of the Nova festival in southern Israel. More than 360 people were killed by armed Hamas fighters at the festival site and dozens more abducted to Gaza.
