Preventing mother to baby HIV transmission in Lesotho

With no intervention, up to 45% of babies born to HIV-positive mothers could be born with or contract the virus. This can be reduced to less than 5% with effective interventions.

In Lesotho, health workers are travelling far and wide to make sure HIV-positive mothers do whatever they can to prevent HIV transmission to their babies.

The Health Show is broadcast on BBC World News on Saturdays at 1010 and 2010 GMT and on Sundays at 0710 and 2310 GMT. The programme is supported by the Gates Foundation.
