Street clashes flare in Indian-administered Kashmir

Government forces have fired rubber bullets and tear gas in Indian-administered Kashmir as stone-throwing protesters defied a curfew and chanted anti-India slogans in Srinagar, the region's main city.

Tens of thousands of Kashmiris have participated in protests against India's rule over the predominantly Muslim region in the last two months.

At least 57 people have died in the civil unrest since June.
