Executed US woman 'startled and fearful'

One of the witnesses to the execution by lethal injection of a 41-year-old woman who conspired to murder her husband and stepson has said she appeared ''startled and fearful'' shortly before her death.

Teresa Lewis was the first woman to be executed in the US for five years and in Virginia since 1912.

Maria Glod of the Washington Post was one of the press reporters who witnessed her final moments in Greensville Correctional Center.
