US shoppers hunt for bargains on Black Friday
The US economy may still be in the doldrums but the country's shoppers have been hitting the stores in their tens of millions.
Black Friday - the day after the Thanksgiving public holiday - is when retailers traditionally make a profit and move from the red into the black.
It is seen as an important test of consumer confidence, against a backdrop of stubbornly high unemployment.
