US: 'Pakistan needs to continue aggressive action'

Disclosures from Wikileaks have revealed heightened American concerns over stability in Pakistan and the reliability of its military.

Diplomatic messages have shown that senior US diplomats in Islamabad, including the former ambassador, Anne Patterson, believed the army was supporting at least three major militant groups, among them the Afghan Taliban, as a means of reducing Indian influence in the region.

The Assistant Secretary at the US State Department Phillip Crowley explained why his country still gave aid to Pakistan despite the revelations.
