Obama 'mindful' of Gabrielle Giffords' empty chair during address

President Barack Obama has paid tribute to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was seriously injured in a mass shooting in Arizona three weeks ago.

As he began his State of the Union address, Mr Obama said he was ''mindful of the empty chair'' marking her absence.
