US hopes for 'meaningful change' in Egypt - PJ Crowley
As Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak clings to power, he has come under increasing international pressure.
The US state department has despatched a special envoy to Cairo, former ambassador to Egypt Frank Wisner, to urge Egyptian leaders to embrace political change.
The Assistant US Secretary of State for Public Affairs, PJ Crowley, spoke to BBC Newsnight's Jeremy Paxman, who asked whether the Americans thought President Mubarak could lead a functioning democracy.
