Space storms threaten technology
Space storms sparked by massive eruptions on the sun pose a large threat to technology on Earth, a US expert has said, following a large solar flare earlier this week.
Thomas Bogdan, the director of the Space Weather Prediction Centre at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa), said global positions systems, satellite-delivered services and the power grid are all at risk from solar flares.
He added that it was difficult to predict space storms, saying that forecasting such events is "not as good as it needs to be".
