Mitt Romney: Marriage between 'a man and a woman'

As President Barack Obama declared that gay and lesbian Americans "should be able to marry", presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was asked for his position on same-sex marriage.

Speaking during a campaign stop in Colorado, Mr Romney said he believed marriage should be limited to one man and one woman.

"That's the posture I had as governor, and the one have today," Mr Romney told local news station KCNC.

Mr Romney said he did not support civil unions that were equivalent to marriage in everything but name, but said hospital visitations and other rights "may well be appropriate" if states make those provisions.
