Can Obama 2012 revive the grassroots appeal of 2008?

In 2008, when President Barack Obama was still a Democratic presidential candidate, he galvanised grassroots support with his promise of a different and better future.

Those legions of supporters and volunteers helped carry him into the White House.

But as Mr Obama seeks re-election four years later the country is struggling with a slow economic recovery, while partisan deadlock has gripped Washington. Whether those once-ardent backers turn out again will affect Mr Obama's chances of remaining in the White House.

Some supporters from 2008 remain steadfast in their loyalty to Mr Obama, while others say they are disillusioned.
