Richard Haass: US must to deal with imperfect regimes

US President Barack Obama has vowed to bring to justice those who killed the US ambassador to Libya during protests against a film that mocks Islam.

Richard Haass, president of the Council of Foreign Relations, tells the BBC's Katty Kay that regardless of motive, the attacks show how difficult the path forward will be for US foreign policy after the Arab Spring.

"Part of the new Middle East is there is a reduction for influence for all outsiders," he said. "It's going to be an extraordinarily difficult time for the US, for the European governments, for everyone."
