Hurricane Sandy closes in on US East Coast

President Obama has cancelled an election rally in Florida to return to the White House to monitor Hurricane Sandy.

The storm is bearing down on the highly populated areas of the US east coast, where it could cause heavy flooding.

ABC news reporter Tahman Bradley is in Ocean City, in Maryland, where a state of emergency has already been declared.

He told BBC News thousands of people have been ordered to leave their homes.
