Superstorm Sandy: Time-lapse video as storm strikes NYC

Time-lapse video filmed from the 51st floor of the New York Times Building shows superstorm Sandy's impact as it swept over the city.

Sandy arrived on the US Atlantic coast on Monday, bringing hurricane-strength winds, flooding and blackouts.

A drop of rain is visible on the camera lens after 12:30EDT (16:30GMT), and by 19:00EDT (23:00GMT) the wind is so strong that the camera is pushed into a new position.

The first skyscraper lights can be seen to go out after 20:30EDT (00:30GMT), but by 11:30EDT (03:30GMT) on Tuesday a glimpse of blue sky is visible.
