Obama gun control proposals face 'almighty battle'
US President Obama will face "the most almighty fight" to get tougher gun control proposals passed by Congress, the BBC's Paul Adams has said.
Mr Obama needs Congress to approve a universal background check for anyone wanting to buy a gun and the re-introduction of a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
But he faces fierce opposition from America's biggest lobbying group, the National Rifle Association, which has already released a television advert calling the president a hypocrite for his stance.
