Syria conflict: John McCain condemns 'unfair fight'

US plans to offer "direct military aid" to parts of the Syrian opposition may not go far enough, Republican Senator John McCain has told the BBC.

President Obama reportedly made the decision after his administration concluded Syrian forces under Bashar al-Assad were using chemical weapons.

But Senator McCain, who has been outspoken in calling for the US to arm the rebels, said the only way to prevent the use of such weapons was "to succeed on the battlefield".
