'Excited, thrilled and in shock'

The wedding of Kris Perry, 48, and Sandy Stier, 50, took place shortly after a US appeals court lifted a ban on same-sex marriages in California, two days after a Supreme Court ruling.

California's Attorney General Kamala Harris declared the pair "spouses for life", but in their vows they each took the other as a "lawfully wedded wife", the Associated Press news agency reports.

"They have waited and fought for this moment," Ms Harris said. "Today their wait is finally over."
