Al-Shabab’s aims ‘manipulated’ by global al-Qaeda

HARDtalk speaks to counter-insurgency expert, David Kilcullen.

He tells Zeinab Badawi that governments should be careful to differentiate between the threats posed by militant groups around the world, and that failing to do so can be seen as "racist".

He says the consequences of falling into the trap of seeing every militant as having a global jihadist agenda are that unnecessary interventions are carried out and soldier's lives lost.
