US Senate fiscal deal will provide stability, says Reid

Republican and Democrat leaders in the US Senate have struck a deal to reopen the government and raise the nation's debt limit.

"Our country came to the brink of disaster," said Democratic leader Harry Reid.

But he told the Senate: "The compromise we reached will provide our economy with the stability it desperately needed".
