Republican Mitch McConnell hails US Senate cross-party deal

Republican and Democratic leaders of the US Senate have struck a deal to end a partial government shutdown and raise the US debt limit.

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said it had been a "long, challenging few weeks" for the Congress and the country.

He said he was confident that they could get the government reopened and avoid default.
