9/11: Obama admits CIA tortured suspects after attacks

Barack Obama has admitted for the first time that the CIA did torture suspects after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York.

The admission has come before the release of a Senate Committee report into the actions of the CIA in the wake of the attacks.

The president defended CIA Director John Brennan who has had to apologise to Senate intelligence staff after CIA officers were revealed to have spied on senators while they were writing the report.
