Obama: 'Iran nuclear deal not based on trust'

US President Barack Obama has hailed a framework agreement with Iran to curb its nuclear activities.

The agreement, reached on Friday, will see some sanctions on Iran lifted - with the option for them to be resumed if the deal is breached.

US Republicans sceptical about the deal have threatened to derail it or impose new sanctions.

Speaking in his weekly address, the president sought to reassure sceptics, saying the deal was "not based on trust" but "on unprecedented verification."
