US police remind public 'we're everyday people too'

Each year thousands of American law enforcement officers gather in Washington, DC for Police Week. They discuss all things public safety and take time to remember those who've been killed in the line of duty - including two officers killed in Mississippi just this weekend.

But this year's Police Week also comes as some departments have come under scrutiny - in places like Ferguson and Baltimore - for the deaths of young black men.

The BBC spoke to participants at Police Week's kick off event to find out how they think the American public perceives them.
