How common are shark attacks in the United States?

Two young people have been seriously injured after a shark attack in North Carolina in the United States.

Officials say a 12 year old and a 16 year, both had parts of their arms amputated after two separate incidents on Sunday.

These attacks are the latest off the US's Atlantic coast. So how common are shark attacks?
