South reconsiders rebel symbols as church shooting victims buried

The first funerals for the victims of the church massacre in Charleston, South Carolina have been held.

Nine people were killed in the attack last week, and President Obama is scheduled to travel to the city on Friday.

In the city, the president will deliver a eulogy for church pastor Clementa Pinckney, who was among the dead.

The reaction to the shootings has encouraged people to reconsider powerful but controversial symbols from the past including the Confederate flag, as the BBC's Nick Bryant reports.
