Gay marriage: US Supreme Court rules same-sex marriages legal nationwide
Same-sex marriage has been ruled a legal right in the United States in a 5-4 vote in the Supreme Court.
The decision means that the 14 states which currently ban them will no longer be able to enforce that law.
The ruling, which sparked celebrations outside the court in Washington DC, brings to an end more than a decade of bitter legal battles.
Speaking outside the Supreme Court, the BBC's Gary O'Donoghue said the ruling was "a landmark moment in American social history".
