Exclusive: Obama wants the UK to remain part of the EU

US President Barack Obama has talked about the importance of the UK continuing to play a strong role on the international stage.

In an exclusive interview with the BBC's North American Editor Jon Sopel, President Obama said: "Having the UK in the European Union gives us much greater confidence about the strength of the transatlantic union."

He added: "We want to make sure that the United Kingdom continues to have that influence."
