Colorado cinema shooting: How James Holmes was convicted

A gunman who attacked a cinema in Colorado in July 2012 has been spared the death penalty but faces life in prison, without parole.

James Holmes killed 12 people and wounded 70 others at a late night screening of a Batman film.

The defence team had argued that Holmes was insane but the jury agreed with prosecutors that, though mentally ill, he was responsible for his actions.
