'Historic' Iran deal will stand after US Senate vote

A move by the US Senate to try to block President Obama's deal with Iran has failed after it fell short of the 60 votes required to take it to a final resolution.

The minority leader, Democrat Harry Reid, described the deal as "historic" and said the vote demonstrated that the agreement will stand.

The majority leader, Republican Mitch McConnell, who is opposed to the deal, criticised the president for not wanting "us to have any say at all".
