Oregon college attack: Gunman's father speaks of shock

Nine people have been killed and seven injured in a shooting at a college in the US state of Oregon, say police.

The gunman, named by US media as Chris Harper Mercer, opened fire at Umpqua Community College on Thursday morning and was killed in a police shootout.

His father Ian Mercer told reporters of his shock and appealed for privacy.
