Timelapse footage shows snowfall at the White House.

The Mayor of Washington DC, Muriel Bowser, has urged people to stay off the city's streets so as not to impede the snow ploughs and emergency vehicles.

Parts of the eastern US have received 40in (102cm) of snowfall in a huge blizzard that is sweeping across the region, affecting 85 million people.
