Michele Giddens is co-founder of sustainable growth investor Bridges Ventures. She says there is a sea-change among companies which are realising there is more to business than just making money - there is a responsibility to the wider world, too.

As social needs have come to the fore in the current economic climate she says business people are realising that it is not just up to the government and philanthropists to solve society's problems - businesses can play a role as well.

Michele says a positive impact in terms of the wider environment is a better long-term business model, which is in part fuelled by customer demand for more socially conscious goods and services.
