Australian High Court backs new tobacco laws

Australia's high court has ruled in favour of a law that bans brand logos on cigarette packets.

The case become a major battleground for the big tobacco companies in their fight against restrictions on the sale of their products.

As a consequence of the ruling, all branding will have to be removed from packaging by December.

Cigarettes and tobacco will be sold in plain olive-coloured packages carrying graphic health warnings.

The BBC's Duncan Kennedy reports.
