Montenegro defender Andrija Vukcevic has joined up with Preston North End for a week-long trial at their training camp in Valencia.

The 28-year-old, who has 18 international caps, is without a club after leaving Mexican side FC Juarez in July.

He spent last season on loan to Spanish side FC Cartagena, making 23 appearances in LaLiga2, plus one in their Copa del Rey match against SD Beasain.

Vukcevic could face a Spanish team during his trial with the Lilywhites as North End's training week will culminate with a pre-season friendly against Getafe.

Burnley's owners Velocity Sport Limited have agreed a deal to acquire La Liga side Espanyol.

It means the Clarets become the latest team to join the multi-club ownership model a number of teams in the Premier League already have.

Espanyol play in the top tier of Spanish football, where they finished 14th last season, two points above the relegation zone.

The two clubs will continue to run separately but will now be part of the same ownership group.

"With this deal, RC Espanyol and Burnley will be part of this investment group, which expands its interests by having a club in La Liga and another in the Premier League - although each will remain independent," Espanyol said in a statement.

Velocity Sport Limited, the sports investment arm of ALK Capital, took over Burnley in December 2020.
