Last Night of Proms in 3D cinemas

The culmination of the BBC Proms is watched and listened to by millions around the world

The Last Night of the Proms will be screened live and in 3D in selected cinemas for the first time next month.

The traditional finale to the BBC Proms is one of the world's most popular classical music concerts.

Cinemagoers are being encouraged to "pack your flags and warm up your singing voices" ahead of the event on Saturday 8 September.

The concert will feature Nessun Dorma and You'll Never Walk Alone before the traditional patriotic climax.

Czech conductor will lead the orchestra, and the audience, in Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance, Sir Hubert Parry's Jerusalem, and the National Anthem.

The programme also features Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti and Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja.

Eight 3D cameras will capture the concert, which is watched and listened to by millions around the world.

The BBC said cinema audiences would have "the best seats in the house" with key cameras in front of the conductor and a remote camera within the orchestra.

Highlights of this year's BBC Proms - which feature two months of music at London's Royal Albert Hall - have included a Wallace and Gromit prom and the event's first Brazilian orchestra, who flew in from Sao Paulo.

A selection of Odeon cinemas across the UK will broadcast the live 3D experience, including Bath, Belfast, Sheffield and Wimbledon. A full list can be found on the BBC website.

The Proms in the Park event also allows those not at the Royal Albert Hall to experience the world-famous Last Night celebrations.

Events are held in London, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland, with each show centred around a live concert before a live big-screen link-up to the main event for the traditional singalong.

Kylie leads the lineup in London's Hyde Park this year, joined by English tenor Alfie Boe, operatic pop group Il Divo, the London Community Gospel Choir and the BBC Concert Orchestra.
