  1. That's a wrap on day 2 of 'Locked in at Christmas'published at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time

BBC Radio Somerset's Charlie Taylor is heading off to bed ahead of his 04:55 alarm call.

He'll be back on the Breakfast Show from 06:00 when he'll be attempting to work out the mystery sound and free himself from Santa's lodge.

He can ask the first question of the day after 09:00.

  2. Curry Christmaspublished at 20:52 Greenwich Mean Time

The takeaway reward for Charlie Taylor decorating the Christmas cards has arrived.

It's Charlie's fourth meal of the day - but he won't thank us for telling you that!

Lamb Dupiaza, Saag Paneer, Pilau Rice, Garlic Naan and Poppadoms were Charlie's menu choices.

  3. Charlie's Completed Christmas Cardspublished at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time

He took 30 minutes on the first card - but Charlie managed to complete all six in the two hours Santa gave him!

He initially added to the templates provided to him - but then decided to spice things up and with a takeaway at stake try and make Santa hungry by creating a set of cards featuring takeaway puns.

'Taylor's Takeaways' featured 'Curry Christmas', 'Merry Chipmas' and 'Pizza on Earth'.

We don't think any Christmas card producers will be knocking on Charlie's door any time soon - but did he do enough to win over Santa and get a takeaway of his choice tonight?

Yes - Santa obliged and curry is on the menu this evening!

  4. Charlie's Christmas Cardspublished at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time

Santa's set Charlie another little challenge to help him through the boredom of being stuck in his lodge.

Charlie's in the lodge until at least 09:00 tomorrow morning when he'll be able to ask Santa another question about the mystery sound he's trying to identify.

His latest task is to hand decorate six Christmas cards in just two hours.

If Santa is satisfied with his efforts then Charlie will earn himself a takeaway of his choosing this evening!

  5. Charlie's back from his nap!published at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time

    We're getting a behind-the-scenes look at a Breakfast radio presenter's life!

BBC Radio Somerset's Charlie Taylor normally wakes up at 04:10 every morning - but today he got a little lie in as his commute to the 'studio' was just a few steps away from his bedroom in Santa's lodge.

    Image caption,

Charlie Taylor with his third meal of the day

His body clock is still very much following its normal pattern though, so he's just woken up from his afternoon nap - and he's had his third meal of the day which was eggs on toast!

(Editor's note: Charlie would like us to point out they've been 'small meals' - a bowl of porridge, a cheese and marmite sandwich and now the eggs on toast!).

  6. Day 2 - Question 4published at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time

The final question of the day has been asked - and controversially it was question 4 (not 5) after Santa took away BBC Radio Somerset's Charlie Taylor's right to ask a question earlier. Scroll down in the feed if you want to find out why!

The fourth question of day 2 that Charlie put to Santa was 'Are there reindeer in the place where this sound was recorded?'.

Charlie was elated when he heard Santa say 'You're part way there, but I need more information than that for it to be a yes!'.

It means Charlie is stuck in the lodge for another night with the next chance to pose Santa a question after 09:00 tomorrow.

Charlie's now going for a lie down - so may not be on camera for a little while. But we'll be setting him a task later this afternoon to keep him occupied, so come back soon to find out what that is!

  7. Need a reminder of the sound?published at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time

Here's BBC Radio Somerset's Charlie Taylor explaining the 'Locked in at Christmas' challenge in his own words - and there's an extra chance to hear the mystery sound in the video.

  8. Day 2 - Question 3published at 13:06 Greenwich Mean Time

After the very definite 'no' to question 2, BBC Radio Somerset's Charlie Taylor responded more positively to Santa's reply to his latest question.

The question he decided to pose to Santa this time around was asked by Mary in Somerton (although both Becks in Bruton and Lou in Wiveliscombe's questions inspired Charlie to ask it).

Santa's response was 'you’re getting warmer – but the snow around the lodge isn’t melting yet'.

Make of that what you will!

  9. Day 2 - Question 2published at 12:29 Greenwich Mean Time

So when the opportunity finally came around for Charlie to ask his second question of the day, he went with 'Is the sound something to do with Royal Mail?'.

That question was an amalgamation of questions around the postal service from Adrian, Hilary and Esther in Weston-super-Mare, Jeff, Andy in Minehead, Chrissie in Taunton and James in Croscombe.

Santa's reply 'No, you’re not even close', so it's back to the drawing board for Charlie.

  10. Has Charlie been rule breaking?published at 11:00 Greenwich Mean Time

    Image caption,

Charlie Taylor and the offending window

Santa's discovered that Charlie Taylor's bathroom window in the lodge was slightly ajar this morning - and decided Charlie was getting closer to the naughty rather than the nice list.

Charlie's adamant he hadn't looked outside and it was purely ajar for air circulation purposes (the less said about that the better!).

But Santa wasn't convinced and took away Charlie's right to ask a question this hour.

  11. Where's Charlie gone?published at 10:24 Greenwich Mean Time

Having presented his BBC Radio Somerset Breakfast Show in his PJs, Charlie's just gone to have a shower and freshen up.

Don't worry... he's still very much locked in Santa's lodge and will be in front of the camera again soon!

  12. Day 2 - Question 1published at 09:50 Greenwich Mean Time

Charlie has just asked the first question of day 2 to Santa - and this time he went with 'is it a letter sorting machine?'.

He took inspiration from messages from Steve in Pilton, Kate in Taunton, Al in Aberdare, James in Croscombe, Sally in Glastonbury, Louise in Wellington, Sue in Taunton and Justin in Berrow.

So what did Santa have to say to Charlie and everyone with that idea? 'No, that's not it!' was his response.

  13. Can you help Charlie work out the mystery sound?published at 09:01 Greenwich Mean Time

We're not far away from Charlie being able to ask Santa the first question of the day.

So just to recap... we're playing 'Locked in at Christmas - the biggest and final game of Sound of the County'.

Charlie's been locked in Santa's lodge - and needs to try and get back on his good list by working out a mystery sound and where it was recorded.

If you think you know what the sound is - why not drop Charlie a WhatsApp? The number you need is 08000 321 333. Just start your message with the word 'Somerset'.

  14. Charlie's Gingerbread Creationpublished at 06:45 Greenwich Mean Time

We gave Charlie Taylor a festive challenge to pass the time yesterday afternoon after he'd used up all his questions to Santa on day 1... create a Gingerbread House!

We think he took it pretty seriously - and if we're honest we're pretty impressed with his efforts.

  15. Morning from day 2 of 'Locked in at Christmas'published at 06:21 Greenwich Mean Time

    BBC Radio Somerset's Charlie Taylor

BBC Radio Somerset's Charlie Taylor has woken up in Santa's lodge for day 2 of 'Locked in at Chistmas'.

He's been locked in a lodge at a secret location - and needs to try and get on Santa's good list by working out a mystery sound and where it was recorded. Only then will his Christmas be saved and will he be released from the lodge.

    Media caption,

This is the sound Charlie Taylor needs to identify to save his Christmas.

Each day he's stuck in the lodge, Charlie gets five chances to ask questions to Santa about the sound - but they can only be yes/no questions.

The first question he chose to put to Father Christmas was suggested by listener Andy in Minehead who asked 'is the sound within 5 miles of the coast?'. Santa's response was 'No - you're not even close!'.

Next up Charlie decided to pose a question to Santa asked by Al in Aberdare. He asked 'is it Christmas related?' and Father Christmas had no hesitation in responding 'ho ho ho, yes'.

Two listeners put forward the same question, 'is it a Christmas tree wrapping machine?' and Charlie couldn't resist asking Santa whether that was the case. Sadly for Peter in Ilminster and Carol in TA2 the answer was simply 'no, that's not it!'.

Lunchtime on day 1 came around and Charlie decided to merge questions from several listeners and viewers to ask Santa 'is it something to do with vehicles?'. Unfortunately Santa's response was a little ambiguous but Charlie decided to take it as a 'no'.

There was more success (perhaps!) with question 5. For his final question of the day, he took inspiration from messages from Diana in Bridgwater and Steve in Crewkerne and asked Father Christmas 'is it something to do with post?'. The time Santa said 'I'm very impressed but I need you to be more specific Charlie'.

Charlie's next chance to ask a question is after 09:00 this morning. Think you can help? You can get in touch with Charlie using the contact details on this page - and you can watch him present his BBC Radio Somerset Breakfast Show right now by clicking watch live at the top of this page.

  16. That's a wrap on day 1 of 'Locked in at Christmas'published at 22:37 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December

BBC Radio Somerset's Charlie Taylor has hit the pillow at the end of day 1 of 'Locked in at Christmas'.

Charlie didn't know what to expect from the day when it started. He hadn't been told details of the challenge in advance of today and only found out what he was facing live on-air.

You'll be able to watch Charlie live in Santa's lodge and listen to his Breakfast Show from 06:00 on Tuesday at the top of this page.

  17. Coming up at 17:00published at 16:38 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December

We've set Charlie an extra challenge to help pass the time while he's stuck in Santa's lodge.

Don't worry! He's still locked in the lodge but is away from our camera position for a short while.

  19. Day 1 - Question 5published at 14:01 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December

Spoiler alert! Charlie's spending the afternoon and night in Santa's lodge.

He's asked all the five questions he could ask today and hasn't managed to work out either the sound or where it was recorded.

For his final question today, he took inspiration from messages from Diana in Bridgwater and Steve in Crewkerne and asked Father Christmas 'Is it something to do with Christmas post?'.

This time Santa's response was 'I'm very impressed but I need you to be more specific Charlie'.

Charlie's been set a festive task to keep him entertained this afternoon. You can see him concentrating hard on it by clicking watch live at the top of this page.

  20. Day 1 - Question 4published at 12:59 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December

Charlie’s getting lots of help from listeners and viewers - and this hour he decided to merge questions from several people to ask Santa ‘is it something to do with vehicles?’.

Sadly Santa’s response was a little ambiguous but Charlie decided it was a ‘no’.
