    Posting on social media, ICE says the Dallas field office has been secured after a gunman fired "indiscriminately at the building and those in the sallyport".

    "We can confirm that three individuals were shot and two are deceased.

    "The shooter is also deceased by a self-inflicted gunshot wound."

    ICE confirms no officers were physically injured.

    "This isn’t the first time this location has been targeted; less than a month ago, a man walked in with what he claimed was a bomb," ICE says. "This violence must stop."

    In a post on X, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in response to the shooting at an ICE facility in Dallas that: “Our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them”.

    Noem and other White House officials have repeatedly talked about an uptick in violence against ICE agents, citing big percentage increases.

    The current figure put out by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a 1,000% rise in assaults. It says these assaults have included , external“vehicles being used as weapons towards them, and doxing campaigns targeting federal officers and their families.”

    When I asked the agency for the actual numbers behind this rise, it responded: “Our brave ICE law enforcement are now facing a 1,000% increase in assaults against them as they risk their lives to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens. These acts of violence are fueled by sanctuary politicians' rhetoric vilifying our law enforcement.”

    Earlier this year, DHS said assaults were up 700%, but according to a Fox News report, external from July the actual numbers behind this rise were relatively small.

    “DHS recorded 10 assault events from Jan. 21, 2024, to June 30, 2024. From the day after President Donald Trump took office earlier this year [January 2025] until Monday, the department recorded 79 assault events, representing a 690% increase year over year,“ it said.

    Now some reactions from politicians.

    Republican Senator for Texas John Cornyn describes the shooting as "horrific" in a post on social media. He says he is praying for everyone impacted by the attack.

    Another Republican Senator for Texas, Ted Cruz, writes a similar message on X, saying he is praying for the "swift recovery" of those who were injured.

    "Another violent attack on a Texas ICE facility," Texas Republican Representative Wesley Hunt says. "Multiple people have been shot as they were unloading detainees."

    And Democratic Representative for Texas Marc Veasey posts that his office is aware of the situation as it unfolds and that he will keep the community updated.

  5. No ICE employees injured, detainees among victims - DHS officialpublished at 15:34 BST

    No ICE employees were injured in today's shooting at the Dallas facility, but detainees were hurt, according to Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at Department of Homeland Security.

    "We know our ICE law enforcement was not injured but we are not sure about local security and other local law enforcement," McLaughlin tells Fox News.

    But McLaughlin says "it looks like" the detainees were among the victims.

  7. 'Violence and terror is never the answer,' county judge sayspublished at 15:21 BST

    We have just heard from Dallas County Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins, who is asking for prayers for those affected by today's shooting.

    "Please join me in prayer for the injured and their families from this morning's active shooter incident at the ICE facility in Dallas," Jenkins, a Democrat, says on X. "Violence and terror is never the answer to anything."

    The county judge position is an executive and administrative role, not a judicial role.

  8. This same ICE facility received bomb threats in Augustpublished at 15:06 BST

    A man was arrested in August after he entered the same Dallas ICE facility claiming to have a bomb in his backpack, according to the Department of Homeland Security, external.

    The 36-year-old US citizen, Bratton Dean Wilkinson, had showed the building's security staff a device on his wrist that he described as a bomb "detonator," the DHS said.

    A senior DHS official said at the the time: "These incidents come after months of smears and rhetoric by activists, politicians, and the media comparing ICE law enforcement to the Nazi Gestapo, kidnappers, and the Secret Police."

    Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is the US federal agency primarily responsible for enforcing US immigration laws.

    ICE officers may operate at or near US border areas but they are best known for operations inside the US.

    Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), a division within ICE, is in charge of identifying, arresting, detaining, and deporting people living in the US without appropriate documentation or those who have been ordered removed, according to the agency.

    At least one person has been killed in the shooting on the ICE facility, the Dallas Police Department confirms.

    Posting on social media, Dallas police says: "The preliminary investigation determined that a suspect opened fire at a government building from an adjacent building.

    "Two people were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene. The suspect is deceased."

    Dallas police says the investigation is ongoing and a media briefing will be held later today.

    Acting ICE director Todd Lyons happened to be live on CNN when news of the shooting in Dallas broke. Here's what he told the network:

    • Three individuals have been shot, Lyons says. They have been taken to hospital and their conditions are unknown at this stage
    • There are some preliminary reports the shooter may be down from the Texas Department of Public Safety
    • He also says early reports suggest the shots came from outside the ICE facility
    • The facility, located at 8101 North Stemmons Freeway in Dallas, has been locked down
    • Lyons also confirmed what we heard from Kristi Noem, that the shooter has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound
    • He adds that the person involved could be a "possible sniper"

  16. Shooting involved 'possible sniper', acting ICE director sayspublished at 14:18 BST

    We can bring you some comments from acting ICE director Todd Lyons, who has confirmed the shooter has died of a self-inflected gunshot wound and that the person involved was a "possible sniper".

    "It could be employees," Lyons says during an interview with CNN. "It could be civilians that were visiting the facility, it could be detainees."

    When asked about those who had been shot - Lyons answers: "At this point, we're still working through that."

    There have been "multiple injuries and fatalities" in a shooting at an immigration facility in Texas, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says.

    The attack happened on Wednesday morning at a Dallas field office for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

    "Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities," Noem says in a post on X.
