    Det Supt Rob Hall added: "Our inquiries will continue over the coming days to ascertain the full circumstances of what happened, but I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone who was in the area around Ashlyn Close from around lunchtime on Tuesday until 7pm, and believes they may have seen anything that could assist the investigation, to contact us.

    "This incident will of course be of concern to local residents.

    "Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team will be in the area today so please do speak to them if you need to."

    Local councillor Louise Nicolas has posted on Facebook, external to say she was "deeply saddened to learn this morning of the tragic news that three women have lost their lives in a violent incident".

    "Should anyone wish to speak with us or require any support please do not hesitate to get in touch," said Ms Nicolas, a Liberal Democrat who represents the North Bushey ward, external on Hertsmere Borough Council.

    "It goes without saying that this is a live investigation, so speculation as to the circumstances should not be entered into [on public forums]."

    The police investigation team in Hertfordshire said officers and ambulance crews tried to save the women at the house in Ashlyn Close, but they all died at the scene.

    They said the three victims were related, but have not provided any further details as yet.

    Police said Kyle Clifford could still be in Hertfordshire, or where he is from in the Enfield area of north London.

    Bushey is about 15 miles away from the borough of Enfield.

    Police have issued a warning to the public not to intervene if they spot the suspect, Kyle Clifford.

    "If you believe you see him, please do not approach him and dial 999 straight away," said Det Supt Rob Hall.

    "He may still be in possession of a weapon."
