There’s a lot about this Big Weekend that has felt familiar.

Stunning performances, sunshine and rain, the buzz and joy of a city that isn’t used to getting a festival like this on its doorstep.

But there’s also been a lot about it that has felt uniquely Liverpudlian.

From the warmth of the people, to the hundreds of red football shirts on display as Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy down the road at Anfield.

As far as the music goes, it’ll be remembered for Ed Sheeran - one of the biggest stars on the planet - playing a secret set in a small tent, while Sam Fender kicked-off what’s going to be a huge summer.

But it’s also felt like a three day celebration of the people and culture.

"Scouse Coachella" - to give it its unofficial title - is the first Big Weekend to take place in Liverpool, and the city has made it its own.

And for those in red, the party doesn’t stop here. Newsbeat will see you tomorrow at the trophy parade!

We're now bringing our live coverage to a close, for more on how the weekend unfolded and unmissable moments head to our news story.

We will shortly be bringing our coverage to a close. As ever with Radio 1’s Big Weekend, you get an eclectic mix of music, sights and weather across all three days.

Friday gave us a sunny start, with local artist Miles Temp kicking things off on the Introducing Stage, and The Wombats getting the Main Stage going.

Tom Grennan gave it his all and gave us plenty of surprises with Ella Henderson, Mel C, KSI and The Zutons.

The surprises continued on what felt like Super Saturday for music. For so many, including me, Ed Sheeran’s surprise set brought genuine star power and the most electric atmosphere I’ve ever heard in the New Music Tent.

Sam Fender overcame the nerves on Saturday to close out a festival which will likely supercharge his path to superstardom.

And while there have been several raised eyebrows at the lack of female headliners, the ”girl power” on Sunday gave us something special. Tate McRae had fans flooding in early, and gave a performance which let us know she belongs on the main stages.

The best of Sunday for so many of the thousands watching included Jade, Lola Young and Self Esteem. Everyone had festival goers engaged, entertained and enthralled through the rain.

Mumford & Sons may not have been everyone’s first choice for the Sunday headline spot, but they had people singing, dancing and swaying with each song.

Utter joy, smiles and warmth across the park - that even the odd downpour couldn’t ruin.

  3. Festival-goers: The backbone of Big Weekendpublished at 22:16 British Summer Time 25 May

Over the past three days, we've been hearing from festival-goers in Sefton Park.

In what seems like a fitting way to mark the end of Radio 1's Big Weekend, we're giving members of the crowd their moment on the stage (or live page).

Radio 1's Big Weekend has just come to a close after a final stellar performance from Mumford & Sons.

The weekend has seen a variety of acts take to four different stages, with something for everyone in Sefton Park.

And, there was a surprise set from Ed Sheeran!

Here's a quick look back at just some of the other highlights:

  5. Another Big Weekend ends - until next yearpublished at 22:06 British Summer Time 25 May

Reporting from Radio 1's Big Weekend in Liverpool

Another Big Weekend done for another year. It feels like just a few hours ago that Miles Temp opened on the Introducing Stage.

But we have had about 100,000 fans seeing 100 acts over four stages across three days.

Mumford & Sons provided a rousing finale, with a fine selection of new and old songs.

Or in their words, “the finest perfume” of their tunes.

A fine way to finish what’s been an entertaining three days of music, fun and joy in Liverpool.

  6. Mumford & Sons end Big Weekend on a fitting notepublished at 22:03 British Summer Time 25 May

Main Stage at Big Weekend, crowds dispersing.

We said a little earlier that some eyebrows were raised when Mumford & Sons were announced as Sunday night’s headliners.

But we can’t see any raised eyebrows as the crowds leave Sefton Park for the final time.

It might be 15 years since it was released, but The Cave was an undeniable festival closer. It felt like the entire field was jumping and signing “And I will hold on hope”.

A fitting note to end on.

I have been speaking with Sian who is in the crowd singing along.

“Amazing - I saw them at Leeds fest years ago - and it was the first time I saw them - with the same people as here today and they’re amazing," she tells me.

Sian’s singing along to all the songs and says Wolfpack is her favourite.

She echoes what a few people have said: “It’s a full circle moment.”

“When did Marcus get so hot? Call me!” Kurtis says - adding “it’s Kurtis and Kerry with a K”.

He’s got Kerry on his shoulders. She’s just fallen off actually. She’s okay - don’t worry.

Kurtis adds: “Amazing, just so much fun what a lovely way to end the weekend”.

View from behind the main stage shows elevated platforms

If you're new to Radio 1's Big Weekend, it's not a spoiler to say there will probably be fireworks tonight - a lot of them.

Even if the music is not your cup of tea, you might want to stick around to see the fireworks light up the Liverpool sky.

Niina and Dylan stood in crowd, stage behind them.

It’s been seven years since Niina saw Mumford & Sons at Big Weekend in Powderham Castle in Exeter.

She says "they were amazing and they’re equally as amazing now - full circle”.

Niina is singing along to every word with Dylan.

  12. Plenty of smiling faces as Mumford & Sons continue to close out the weekendpublished at 21:25 British Summer Time 25 May

Some eyebrows were raised when Mumford & Sons were announced as Sunday night’s headliners.

Their distinctive folk rock feels very much of the late 2000s and early 2010s period it came from - maybe lacking the modern edge you might expect.

But, walking among the all-ages crowd here as the sun sets on Sefton Park, you can see why they are closing the festival.

I can see plenty of smiling faces; singing and dancing from the youngest to the oldest.

“We always come to Liverpool in big footballing moments,” Marcus Mumford tells the crowd.

“AFC Wimbledon are indeed playing at Wembley tomorrow”, says the lead singer - as he makes a gag about his own team in the League Two play-off final against Walsall tomorrow, ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League trophy parade.

There are plenty of red Liverpool tops among the clapping crowd - although many are now tucked away behind raincoats and ponchos.

The temperatures are dropping. I’m wearing a puffer jacket my colleague Shaun Dacosta has kindly lent me.

But, despite it getting colder the ice cream vans are still open for business.

Plenty of people grabbing a quick scoop before going back to the music.

As the band slow to some of their more plaintive tunes, let's check in with those in the crowd.

Rebecca tells me she was not deterred by the earlier downpours.

“It’s amazing - brilliant - it would be just as good in the rain as well,” she says.

Her friend Izzy adds: “It’s a good atmosphere - I feel emotional."

A view of a stage with Mumford and Sons playing, lots of people watching.

Crowds have gathered at the Main Stage for the final time this weekend to see the headliner act.

It stretches back - with people taking advantage of slightly more space at the back of the park or watching the band on the big screen in the middle.

Despite the earlier delays, Mumford & Sons made it to the Main Stage pretty much on time.
