  1. Myles Smith tells BBC his set will bring lots of fun and energypublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 24 May

Reporting from Radio 1's Big Weekend in Liverpool

    Myles Smith

I’ve been speaking to Myles Smith ahead of his set, and he was in great spirits looking forward to performing.

He has actually already been on stage, joining Tom Odell earlier in the day, which he says was decided “this morning”.

As for what we can expect from his performance this afternoon? “Lots of fun and energy,” he promises.

Myles is due to perform on the Main Stage at 16:25, you can watch his set live right here on this page by heading to the Watch and listen tab.

  2. As Sam Fender says, we're just 'Getting Started'published at 15:59 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hollie Cole
Reporting from the BBC newsroom in London

Whew, the Sugababes' set went by quickly but we still got to enjoy hits like Push the Button and About You Now.

The girl group were the second spectacular performance we've seen on the Main Stage so far today, with Tom Odell's soulful vocals kicking things off earlier.

Elsewhere, we got a surprise act from Ed Sheeran on the New Music Stage, which caused quite a stir - so much so that access had to be "temporarily paused" because the stage had reached full capacity.

And, day two of Big Weekend is far from over yet. As the title of headliner Sam Fender's song says, we're just "Getting Started".

We've got Myles Smith, Blossoms and Wolf Alice coming up later on the Main Stage, and the New Music Stage will see hits from Jordan Adetunji and Inhaler.

And to end the night, we'll have a performance from Sam Fender, and Aitch and AJ Tracey will be performing back-to-back on the New Music Stage.

I'm not quite sure which stage to listen in to - what a choice!

Remember, you can tune in to see the performances live right here on this page, just click the Watch and listen tab.

They’ve been dropping so many hints - and the crowd are getting it!

Laura and Alice say: “Very good nostalgic - it’s so good to see them back”.

Sugababes bring yesterday back around with their 2007 hit ‘About You Now’.

And with that, Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan leave the stage telling the crowd to enjoy the rest of their day. There's plenty more to come, we have more on that in our next post.

While the crowd seems a little hesitant when it comes to newer tracks like Drum, the turnout is still strong, with a devoted crowd soaking up the moment and waiting for some of the classics.

    Among them is Vicky.

She says: "It’s unbelievable - mine and my best mates' favourite song is Ugly so we are hoping they play that, as well as Push the Button and About You Now."

Well, luckily for Vicky and her friends, Sugababes have just sang the last few words of Push the Button.

They've just announced their last song, About You Now - follow along and listen live above.

There's a lot of big names on the other stages today, but Big Weekend is also just as much about new names - like Merseyside's own Jetta who is up on the BBC Introducing Stage.

Here's a look of who else will be taking the spotlight there today - including a secret set:

It's nearly time to Push the Button and welcome Sugababes to the Main Stage at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Sefton Park.

The Sugababes' members have been moving 'Round Round' for years, but in 2019 the original three members reunited.

Currently the group consists of Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy, who formed the original trio back in 1998.

Donaghy was first to leave the group in 2001, followed by Buena in 2005.

Buchanan left in 2009, the final original member to exit. For a short while, the Sugababes was instead made up of Jade Ewen, Amelle Berrabah and Heidi Range.

Their original iteration of the girl ground made a comeback 2012. During this time they lost the rights to the Sugababes name, eventually winning it back in 2019.

The rest is history, as they returned to the Sugababes we know and love. Currently, they're embarking on the biggest tour of their career across Europe, with a stop off in Liverpool of course.

As a reminder, Sugababes will take to the main stage at 14.55 - just ten minutes to go!

  11. It's busy at the entrance to Sefton Parkpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 24 May

    Shaun Dacosta, BBC Newsbeat
Reporting from Radio 1's Big Weekend in Liverpool

Large crowds queueing up outside Sefton Park in Liverpool. The groups vary in age and gender, at the forefront a teen in a light blue hoodie looking down

We’re hearing that the queues to get into Sefton Park for the festival are piling up.

It’s been a couple of hours since the Big Weekend app let people know that Ed Sheeran would be the secret set on the New Music Stage - with some then arriving earlier than planned to try to catch a glimpse of him.

He's now finished his set and queues continue to build ahead of performances from Sugababes, Blossoms and Sam Fender - plus many more.

We’ve been sent this photo by a BBC colleague just outside the gates. It comes just after stewards closed access to the New Music Stage because it reached full capacity as Sheeran played his surprise set.

We've just reported that Blossoms' set is a long time coming at Radio 1's Big Weekend.

They will be hitting the Main Stage later this afternoon - who else is on the line-up?

    13:30-14:10 - Tom Odell

    14:55-15:35 - Sugababes

    16:20-17:00 - Myles Smith

    17:45-18:25 - Blossoms

    19:10-19:55 - Wolf Alice

    20:45-21:45 - Sam Fender

We're looking ahead to Blossoms' set later this afternoon as the band will be performing on the Main Stage from 17:45 BST.

Teams from Greater Manchester don’t always get the warmest reception from Liverpool crowds.

But I think Blossoms will be an exception.

The indie rock band from Stockport have been around a while now, first playing Big Weekend in 2016. They were also on the line-up in 2020, before the event was cancelled due to the pandemic - so consider this performance a long time coming.

Newer fans might know them from their Radio 1 Live Lounge cover of Charli XCX’s 360 last year, but OGs will be looking forward to classics like Charlemagne.

fans stand at the foot of the main stage.

I’ve just moved across the park from Ed Sheeran in the New Music Tent to see Tom Odell at the Main Stage.

There is a sizeable crowd, but it feels like there could have been more if it wasn’t for the draw of Sheeran in the Tent.

It feels like there are fewer people here than yesterday for The Wombats and Natasha Bedingfield.
