Summary

It's the biggest night in fashion on Manhattan's Upper East Side, as stars serve their most iconic looks for the 2025 Met Gala
The theme for this year's event is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," the first since 2003 to focus exclusively on menswear
Vogue says the subject of the exhibition is the "black dandy" which "examines the importance of clothing and style to the formation of black identities in the Atlantic diaspora"
We've already seen Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour arrive, along with co-chairs for the night Coleman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton
Stars such as Zendaya, Doechii, Shah Ruhk Khan, and Bad Bunny have also made appearances

With Rihanna finally inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art after walking the blue carpet, all that's left for fashion fans the world over (besides beginning the painstaking process of ranking their best-dressed looks) is to imagine what goes on inside the exclusive Met Gala.
It's the industry's biggest night, paying homage to the Costume Institute's exhibit - this year called Superfine: Tailoring Black Style - while also raising money for future shows.
And while the stars party on, it's time for us here on this live page to turn into pumpkins and call it a night.

The Superfine exhibition at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art is subtitled Tailoring Black Style.
Attendees at tonight's Met Gala - which raises money for the Costume Institute at the museum - took that theme to heart, with a notably monotone vibe overall than we've seen in past years.
The devil was certainly in the details, though, as jewels added depth and intrigue to the blue carpet's mostly black-and-white palette.
Among the most notable features:
- Pharrell Williams' pearly pinstripes (pearlstripes?)
- Diana Ross' giant train of feathers
- Whoopi Goldberg's top hat and fascinator, from Thom Browne
- Academy Award winner Zoe Saldana's dozens of covered buttons
- Severance's Tramell Tillman's all-black fabric lily brooch

Some standout looks, if only because they broke with the black-and-white suiting mould of the night:

Trust arguably the most stylish Met Gala attendee Rihanna to bring the ultimate accessory to the daffodil carpet this year: her third pregnancy with co-chair ASAP Rocky, with whom she shares sons RZA and Riot.
The singer of "Umbrella" - an accessory much needed on a rainy day like today's first Monday in May - debuted her first pregnancy with a Harlem photoshoot, dripping in Chanel, in 2022.
The following year she headlined the Super Bowl half-time show while pregnant with baby number two.
This time around, she is stunning in perhaps her most iconic Met Gala look yet: mum of three in Marc Jacobs.
And though our wait for Rihanna on the blue carpet is over, our wait for new music from the star carries on.

Golden Globe winner Ayo Edebiri has said her outfit is a nod to her Nigerian father's Edo culture.
The white dress, designed by Ferragamo, is bejewelled with red beads traditionally made from corals and worn at special events such as weddings in the Edo culture.
They signify power, wealth and beauty.
She has paired the beads with a white collared shirt dress and black leather overcoat.

The pinstripe has been synonymous with suiting since at least the inception of the black dandy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, through mid-century gangsters and zoot suiters to 1980s power dressing, but after tonight you'd be forgiven for feeling a bit of a pinstripe overload!
Pinstripes have shown up to varying degrees tonight on everyone from Questlove to Quinta Brunson to Patrick Schwartzenegger.
Most attendees' outfits - pinstripe or otherwise - were on point individually, but taken as a whole, the overall looks and the tiny narrow lines tend to blur into one another to become a little one-note.

When asked about her outfit by Vogue on the carpet, Janelle Monáe responded simply - "free" - followed by an expletive.
“And when I’m in my suit, that is exactly how I feel," she says.
She's wearing a Thom Brown suit, whom she’s attended the Met Gala with as a guest of for the last several years.
"I feel like I am showing you a new way to think about clothing and to think about values and to think about what you stand for, what you don’t stand for, and the kind of person you want to represent as you walk this earth.”
The look is styled by the Academy Award-winning costume designer for Wicked, Paul Tazewell.

A$AP Rocky confirms Rihanna is pregnant with couple's third childpublished at 02:33 British Summer Time
One of tonight's Met Gala co-chairs A$AP Rocky has confirmed that he and Rihanna are expecting their third child together.
We have yet to see Rihanna on the blue carpet but earlier on, she was seen at a nearby hotel.
"It is time to just show the people what we were cooking up," A$AP Rocky told a reporter of the pregnancy. "I am glad everybody is happy for us because we're definitely happy."
Rihanna has used big events to reveal pregnancies before. She used her 2023 Super Bowl halftime show to reveal that she was pregnant with her second child.

Grace Wales Bonner of the eponymous British upstart line Wales Bonner has emerged as one of the Met Gala’s top designers, dressing FKA Twigs, co-chair Lewis Hamilton and exhibition catalogue photographer Tyler Mitchell in ivory suits, along with exhibition co-curator Monica L Miller.
Hamilton’s look, which took months to assemble, was inspired by jazz singer Cab Calloway and Barkley L Hendricks paintings and is accessorised with a Stephen Jones beret and a pearl, garnet and cowrie shell brooch, the latter of which holds significance in the African diaspora - important for tonight's theme which focuses on menswear as inspired by black men.

What is it really like inside the secretive Met Gala?published at 02:26 British Summer Time

With only the red carpet stragglers left, most of the attendees of tonight's Met Gala have now gone inside the museum to begin the main programme for the night.
Very few people, excluding the invitees, have been inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art during the gala – but I have.
I moved to New York City from Los Angeles in 2013, called to the city – like many others before me – in hopes of becoming a fashion model.
The modelling agency that represented me partnered with a catering company that hired models for its high-profile events, like the Met Gala.
I was part of a vast network of waiters, handing off bottles of booze and plates of food to one server, who would hand it to another server, who would gently put it on the table between chattering celebrities.
At the end of the night, one thing that struck me was that most of the food on the plates appeared untouched. The champagne bottles, however, were mostly empty.
