  3. Passenger who missed flight says airport employee saved his lifepublished at 22:44 British Summer Time 9 August

    A handful of passengers who were supposed to be on the flight but missed it are relieved to have not made their reservation.

    One man, Adriano Assis, said when he arrived at the airport in Cascavel, there was a lack of information on take-off and nobody at the counter to answer questions.

    When someone did arrive, they told him he couldn’t board yet.

    “I even argued with him, but he ended up saving my life,” Assis told a local newspaper, as reported by Brazilian news agency Globo, external.

  4. Information about crashed plane and crew members revealed by aviation authoritypublished at 22:24 British Summer Time 9 August

    The National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) has said the aircraft operated by Voepass that crashed in Vinhedo was manufactured in 2010 and in good operating condition, with valid a registration and certificates to show its airworthiness.

    The flight had four crew members on board at the time of the accident and all were duly licensed and had valid qualifications.

    The ANAC say they will continue to monitor assistance to victims and their families by the company.

    In addition, the agency says it will also continue to monitor the developments of the investigation by the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA).

    Eyewitnesses have described the moment the passenger plane crashed in Vinhedo in São Paulo state.

    “When I heard the sound of the plane falling, I looked out my window at home and saw the moment it crashed," Felipe Magalhaes tells Reuters news agency.

    He says he ran out of his house to see where the plane had fallen, and "terrified and not knowing what to do, I jumped over the wall".

    Nathalie Cicari, who lives near to where the plane crashed, tells CNN Brasil that she was having lunch when she heard a "very loud noise very close by", describing it like the sounds of a drone but "much louder".

    "I went out on the balcony and saw the plane spinning. Within seconds, I realised that it was not a normal movement for a plane."

    She says the moment of impact was "terrifying" but she wasn't hurt despite having to evacuate her house which was filled with black smoke after the crash.

  11. Brazillian Air Force confirms plane 'lost contact' and 'did not declare an emergency'published at 21:41 British Summer Time 9 August

    The Brazilian Air Force has just released some details we can share with you.

    It confirms the Voepass flight left Cascavel bound for Guarulhos Airport in São Paulo.

    "The flight was normal until 13:20 (17:20 BST). However, from 13:21 onwards, the aircraft did not respond to calls from the São Paulo Approach Control, nor did it declare an emergency or report being under adverse weather conditions.

    "The loss of radar contact occurred at 13:22."

    According to airline Voepass, the flight originally took off from Cascavel at 11:46 am.

    Officials have also confirmed that the Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center, which is a unit of the Brazilian Air Force, will investigate the crash.

    Voepass has updated the death toll for its flight that crashed in the southern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on Friday, saying 61 people have died.

    "The company regrets to inform that all 61 people on board Flight 2283 died at the scene," Voepass says in a statement.

    It was previously believed 62 people had perished on board the aeroplane that went down.

    Voepass now says there were 57 passenger on board - not 58 - and four crew members.

    "At this time, Voepass Linhas Aéreas prioritises providing unrestricted assistance to the families of the victims and effectively collaborating with the authorities to investigate the causes of the accident," the company adds.

    As we've been reporting, Voepass says one of its planes has crashed in Brazil.

    The company is a Brazilian regional airline based in Ribeirão Preto, in São Paulo state, according to CAPA Centre for Aviation, and operates a fleet of turboprop aircraft. It's the country's fourth-largest airline by market share.

    It has a fleet of 15 aircraft, according to information on Flight Radar.

    The company, previously known as Passaredo, serves nearly 50 destinations and has a fleet made up entirely of ATR-72 and ATR-42 aircraft that seat up to 70 passengers.

    There was no apparent crash landing. This was a plane totally out of control.

    Spiralling, in a terrifying manner, to the ground before bursting into clouds of black smoke and flames.

    Its final moments were captured by horrified onlookers, going about their day in the countryside town of Vinhedo outside São Paulo.

    It was a short internal flight from the Brazilian state of Paraná to São Paulo, supposed to be just short of two hours.

    After a descent like this, the outcome felt tragically inevitable.

    Fifty-eight passengers and four crew members were on board and local authorities say there are no survivors.

    It landed in a residential area, but no one on the ground was injured. Just one home in the residential complex it landed in was damaged, but none of the residents are reported hurt.

    The airline says it is not yet clear what caused the crash.

    There are no answers yet for the friends and families on board - only unimaginable shock and grief.

  15. Airplane manufacturer 'fully engaged' to support investigationpublished at 20:44 British Summer Time 9 August

    The maker of the aeroplane that crashed, ATR, has released a statement following the incident.

    The Franco-Italian manufacturer says it's been informed that an accident occurred in Vinhedo, Brazil involving one of its planes, an ATR 72-500.

    "Our first thoughts are with all the individuals affected by this event," it says.

    It adds that ATR specialists are fully engaged to support both the investigation into what caused the crash and its customers.

  16. Neighbouring town sends 20 first responderspublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 9 August

    The nearby town of Valinhos has sent 20 emergency personnel to the plane crash site in the town of Vinhedo in São Paulo state, local authorities say.

    "Twenty men were mobilised, including three vehicles from the Valinhos Municipal Civil Guard and one vehicle from the civil defense," Valinhos City Hall says in a statement.

    In the town of Vinhedo in São Paulo state, where the plane crashed, officials say only one home in the local condominium complex has been damaged.

    None of the residents were hurt, according to city officials at Valinhos.
