    We can now bring you a statement from airline Voepass, which has confirmed that one of its planes has crashed in Brazil's Vinhedo region.

    "The aircraft took off from Cascavel/PR bound for Guarulhos Airport, with 58 passengers and four crew members on board," the statement says.

    "Voepass has activated all means to support those involved. There is still no confirmation of how the accident occurred or the current situation of the people on board."

    Information will be provided to passengers, their families and employees 24 hours a day, the airline adds.

    The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has held a minute's silence at an event he was speaking at, after hearing of the crash.

    In a post on social media, he says the crash is "very sad. All my solidarity to the families and friends of the victims".

    A plane carrying 58 passengers and four crew has crashed in the Brazilian state of São Paulo.

    The twin-engine turboprop plane was flying from Cascavel in the southern state of Paraná to the main airport in São Paulo city when it came down in the town of Vinhedo, the Voepass airline says.

    Footage circulating on social media shows a plane descending vertically, spiralling as it falls.

    "There is still no confirmation of how the accident occurred or the current situation of the people on board," the airline says in a statement.

    Local authorities say the plane landed on a residential building.

    Police and fire services are at the scene and local hospitals have been alerted.
