I’ve seen a lot of Oasis gigs and that was genuinely the best they’ve been since 1995, when I saw them support REM in Ireland and they instantly made the headliners seem irrelevant and past it.

Liam was like a dog unleashed, tearing through the setlist like he was singing it for the first time. Noel’s guitar playing was crisp and clear. They pulled it off.

Would it have been good to see more interaction - any interaction - between the brothers? Yes, it would. But just to see them sharing the stage again was strangely emotional.

    One for the history books.

It's been a momentous day for British music, and one some might have said would never happen.

Oasis's first gig in 16 years here in Cardiff did not disappoint - they've proved they have not lost their step.

A stream of greatest hits played out across the stadium as fans bounced, screamed and sang along to what must have felt like pure nostalgia.

Thousands of fans headed to the Welsh capital today, but for Oasis their travelling has only just begun.

One day down.. 40 more to go.

We'll shortly be closing our live coverage - but our next post from BBC's music correspondent Mark Savage will give you a picture of what it was like to be at the gig.

Goodnight from us, and thanks for following along.

Oasis's first gig in 16 years has just come to a close - and for the fans both inside and outside the stadium in Cardiff it's been a long-time coming.

It was a night of hugs, cheers and spilt beer - but don't take our word for it, here's what we heard from you:

  4. 'There are many things I’d like to say to you, but I don’t speak Welsh'published at 22:37 British Summer Time 4 July

Wonderwall was one of the big hits of the night - prompting hugs and cheers from the crowd.

And in a nod to the host city for the first gig of their reunion, Liam sang at one point: "There are many things I’d like to say to you... but I don’t speak Welsh."

    That’s it folks.

Zero chat between Liam and Noel all gig, but they sang together perfectly and the new bigger band sounded massive, almost blowing the roof off.

Earlier, Liam asked if it was worth it. Most people inside the stadium have given a resounding yes.

Off they go, slowly walking down the hall of the stadium and off into the night - looking tired and emotional but happy.

Here's the moment when it all began.

Two hours ago, the Gallagher brothers united on stage together for the first time in a decade and a half.

Everyone who was there will remember this moment...

  8. This is a big finishpublished at 22:14 British Summer Time 4 July

Noel has not been a lead guitarist much lately but he’s nailed the riff, originally written by Paul Weller.

    This is a big finish.

Liam has not moved once, hunched over and pulling back his shoulders to belt out one last tune.

  9. 'This is it', says Liam as Champagne Supernova beginspublished at 22:13 British Summer Time 4 July

"Right you beautiful people, this is it," says Liam.

    This time he means it.

"Nice one for coming with us over the years."

They’re closing with seven minutes of epic psych pop rock in the form of Champagne Supernova.

  10. Loud cheers for Wonderwallpublished at 22:12 British Summer Time 4 July

This is a song so overplayed on the radio that it could fall flat.

    But it doesn’t.

Everyone knows Wonderwall from your granny to your nephew.

    Loud cheers from all around.

Liam is back and they’re playing their most famous song.

Digsy’s Dinner... Only joking it’s Wonderwall. duh.

Remember the guy from before with the beer? He’s just given me a big sloppy hug. Didn’t mind it.

I live in Cardiff and thought what better to do on my Friday night than eavesdrop on one of the biggest gigs of the year. And a couple of hundred other people had the same idea.

Here in the cheap seats on the river bank opposite the Principality Stadium, there are couples, teenagers and dogs on blankets.

We all cheered on a couple running to the gates of the stadium who, unlike us, had tickets but were running late.

Now we are enjoying the thumping drums and Liam and Noel’s voices drifting over the water. It’s a fun, relaxed vibe. We have a few beers and the couple next to us have a picnic.

A handful of boats and people on paddleboards are drifting in the water under the gates of the stadium. I’m not sure if we are a group of Oasis super fans.

But Cardiff is a small city so it’s a big deal hosting such a massive concert - and I think people want to feel part of it.

I get the sense everyone was just waiting to hear Wonderwall so we can all sing along (in true Welsh style).

People sat on the walls of the River Taff in Cardiff, they face the Principality stadium and listen on the the Oasis gig.

Don't Look Back in Anger next.

A song that took on a greater significance when sang in impromptu fashion by a woman at a vigil for the victims of the Manchester Arena bomb.

No need for Noel to sing the chorus. He doesn’t need to.

The woman behind me has nearly burst my ear drum.

  14. Noel back on stage introducing the bandpublished at 21:59 British Summer Time 4 July

    Paul Glynn
    Reporting from the gig

The band have returned without Liam, and Noel is introducing the band members.

"This... our 14th drummer," he quips.

The biggest cheer comes for the "legend" Bonehead, as Noel puts it.

They’re now playing The Masterplan. Does anyone remember B sides?

  15. A riotous rendition of Rock 'n' Roll star to conclude the set... but is it the end?published at 21:53 British Summer Time 4 July

    Paul Glynn
    Reporting from the gig

The set is ending now, according to Liam, with a riotous rendition of Rock ‘n’ Roll star.

    The place is bouncing.

If ever two songs defined Oasis it’s this and Live and Forever.

I have a feeling there’s more to come... By my calculations there are at least three anthems yet to come, you know the ones I mean.

A real touching moment there at the end of Live Forever as an image of the late Liverpool player Diogo Jota appeared on the screen.

    Applause from all around.

  17. Phones go up in air for Live Foreverpublished at 21:46 British Summer Time 4 July

    Mark Savage
Music correspondent, reporting from the gig

People are holding up their phones for Live Forever, one of the songs that really marked the band’s arrival: Full of youthful optimism and bravado. An hour and a half in, Liam still sounds fresh and powerful and fans are even singing along to Noel’s guitar solo.

“Right, this is our last one - Rock and roll star,” says Liam as the lights go down. (Don’t worry, they’ve definitely saved a couple of bangers for the encore).

Liam has got his maracas out as Whatever continues.

Or maybe it’s a shaker (maker).

Noel got sued for this song when it came out for its similarity to a song called It’s Good to an Idiot.

    No, really.

The crowd is singing the Beatles outro - which I think Noel sang at Knebworth.

"I’d like to be under the sea..."

  19. Little by Little, Oasis work their way through the classicspublished at 21:41 British Summer Time 4 July

The band are working their way through their greatest hits, from Cigarettes and Alcohol to Supersonic and Roll With It.

All eyes are on the brothers, who haven't shared a stage since 2009, but it's all been smooth sailing so far.

  20. No dancers or pyrotechnics, but the crowd play their partpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 4 July

    Paul Glynn
    Reporting from the gig

If you’ve never seen Oasis before you might think there’s not much going on.

There’s zero movement. No dancers or pyrotechnics.

There’s not even a string section or choir (yet).

The crowd are singing the cello line from Whatever now.
