    Simon Hare
    BBC Derby

The Labour vote is looking very strong in Mid-Derbyshire.

It wasn't a target seat for the party. Chesterfield councillor Jonathan Davies was selected relatively late as the candidate.

It has been Conservative since it was formed in boundary changes in 2010.

Its MP for 14 years Pauline Latham stood down at this election.

  5. Derbyshire Dales Tories in high spiritspublished at 01:45 British Summer Time 5 July

    Sanchez Mitchell
    BBC Derby

The Conservatives seem to be in good spirits in conversation at the Derbyshire Dales count.

Elsewhere the Lib Dems are sat in a circle sharing a box of Lindt, while the Greens and Labour are not around at the moment.

I've not seen anyone from Reform UK since Mr Oakenfull's team asked us not to hijack him with questions about racism.

    Heidi Booth
    BBC Derby

Nigel Mills, Conservative MP since 2010 in Amber Valley, says he's not expecting to win tonight.

"When the tide's against you, the tide's against you," he said.

"Once we had the Liz Truss/Kwasi budget disaster, we lost our reputation for competence and we've not recovered from it."

    Kat Harbourne
    BBC Derby

The North East Derbyshire county at Dronfield Sports Centre is busy with supporters for candidates from various parties.

Conservative candidate Lee Rowley arrived just after midnight. He's defending a 13,000 majority against Labour's Louise Jones.

Mr Rowley was polite but firm when he told the BBC he won't be doing any interviews until after the declaration, which is due around 05:00.

He wouldn't be drawn on what he thought would happen here.

Labour Party supporters have cracked open their buffet - a tray of pre-made sandwiches and bottles of water whilst Reform candidate Andy Egginton has been seen perusing the vending machine.

    Isaac Ashe
    BBC Derby

Jack Tymon at Derbyshire Dales has heard from Sarah Dines, the Conservative candidate.

She said: "I don't think the exit poll gives enough clarity at this stage as to which regions are going to do better than others.

"Obviously it sounds quite disappointing for the Conservatives but I've worked jolly hard and I hope and expect to win."

    Simon Hare
    BBC Derby

It’s the calm before the counting here at Derby Arena.

They are actually still waiting for a few ballot boxes for the Mid Derbyshire seat.

Party workers are gathered in their different groups in the arena’s cafe and reception area.

    Steve Beech
    BBC Derby

Verification of votes is complete here at the Green Bank Leisure Centre in Swadlincote and the counting of general election papers will get under way once votes for a by-election in Hilton have been dealt with.

The Conservative Heather Wheeler who’s defending the seat has arrived and says it’ll be a close call. In 2019 she secured a 19,335 vote majority over Labour.

    Heather Wheeler

“I think a lot of people stayed at home," she said.

"As regards to tonight’s result here, I’ve genuinely no idea. Clearly Reform have done very well but who did they nick more votes from – me or them [Labour].

"But it’s been a fun ride.”

  16. Betting scandal has cost votes says Edwina Curriepublished at 01:11 British Summer Time 5 July

    Matthew Barlow
    BBC Derby

Prominent Conservative figure and former South Derbyshire MP Edwina Currie said High Peak MP Robert Largan fought a strong campaign.

Derbyshire Police reviewed social media posts that had the headline "Labour for Largan" on a red background after complaints but no further action was taken by the police.

Speaking to me at the count in Buxton, she said the electorate would be "pretty dim" to think that Mr Largan was a Labour candidate.

Instead she said the betting scandal was costing good Tory MPs votes.

    Jack Tymon
    BBC Radio Derby

Helen Wetherall is the True and Fair candidate here in Derbyshire Dales and she's told me she's been hard at work on the campaign trail.

She said: "I've been doing over 20,000 steps a day, I've lost a stone in weight, so it's a win-win."

    Fair and Decent Party candidate

She added: "People are absolutely cheesed off with the Conservative party. We've got a strong-ish Reform vote, which is against the Tories.

"But definitely Labour are going to have a very, very good night.

"My aim was to put a different voice, but a decent voice. I've done seven hustings and the feedback has been really, really good."

We're still waiting to see just how accurate the exit poll's landslide Labour prediction will be.

But Jamie Mulhall, Conservative candidate in Derby South, has told me: "You can't sugarcoat it."

    Conservative hopeful at Derby Arena

He said: "The exit poll is absolutely devastating for the Conservative party.

"But at the end of the day it is just an exit poll."

"So many people I've met have been desperate for change. I'm hoping we see a fresh start tonight."

Talking about his campaign, he said: "I can honestly say we couldn't have done any more."
