    His mum cried as she congratulated her son, saying she is "so proud" of him.

    He has told us he couldn't have won the seat without his family's support.

    The declaration for the Wells and Mendip Hills seat is imminent at the Bath and West Showground.

    Lib Dem Tessa Munt is hoping to win the seat from the Conservatives and become an MP again, having been MP for the former Wells constituency from 2010-2015.

    Previous Conservative Wells MP James Heappey stood down when the election was called, with his party rapidly selecting Meg Powell-Chandler as its candidate.

    It's the second result in a year for many voters there, after a by-election in the previous Somerton and Frome constituency last July, which has now been split into two new constituencies: Glastonbury and Somerton, and Frome and East Somerset

    She gives her party officials the thumbs up – she believes there’s enough votes to become the new MP for Wells & Mendip Hills.

    Declaration is due within the next half an hour – recount pending.
